This course is an introduction to physician office billing procedures, focusing on the factors that impact payment processing. Topics include documentation, insurance forms and the CMS-1500, and understanding different health insurance types and their billing requirements. The course also highlights common billing errors, office fee schedules, compliance with laws, and how to handle charges, payments, denials, and appeals. Students will use simulated computer data entry for patient records, procedures and diagnostic codes, insurance processing, and electronic transmission of claims.
