Catalog description

Offered: F (even-numbered years). This is a survey of literature from around the world, emphasizing translated works from Asia, Africa, the Middle East, Europe, and the Americas. Students will read authors from various periods and movements and will practice close reading of texts, research and write interpretive texts, and engage with a variety of genres, such as poetry, drama, fiction, and creative non-fiction. Possible texts include works such as Chinua Achebe's Things Fall Apart, Laura Esquivel's Like Water for Chocolate and Shikibu Murasaki's The Tale of Genji.
