Introduction to Reading and Language Arts Methods

Offered: F, Sp. An introductory course to the philosophy and techniques associated with a research-based literacy instruction. The course will cover content to teach phonological and phonemic awareness, phonics, vocabulary, and the writing process through authentic text. Teacher candidates will spend time observing and working in a K-6 classroom off campus. Prerequisites: EDU 202 and EDU 203. Section information text: Students will meet face to face on Wednesday evenings. All students will be required to complete 2 hours of specific fieldwork activities during the school day (8:30am-3:30pm) each week, with some flexibility on day and time. Students must provide their own transportation and will be required to submit documentation of completed activities. This course may be waitlisted through the online registration system.
