Aquatic Ecology

Offered: F (even-numbered years). This course uses lectures and discussions of primary literature to provide an overview of selected topics in aquatic ecology, including characteristics of different aquatic ecosystems, biology and ecology of aquatic organisms, and current issues in conservation and management of aquatic systems. The lab portion of this course focuses on field techniques and methodology, exploration of local aquatic ecosystems, identification of organisms, and experimental design and data interpretation. This course includes required weekend field trips. Three hours lecture, three hours lab. Prerequisites: A grade of C or higher in BIO 225.
