Prerequisites: Sophomore standing or consent of the instructor. This course focuses on mining and its effects on economic and human development in twentieth century Africa. It examines specific case studies, which may include oil, diamonds, uranium, copper, and ivory to understand how African states and economies have been affected by valuable resources. This course counts toward the Global Perspectives graduation requirement.
