Catalog description

This course explores food and drink as core aspects of intimate and public life in Japan and as key elements of nationalism. It examines distinct class, ethnic, and regional dimensions of food and drink that have their own unique histories. Students will learn how food and drink encode a spectrum of historical meanings as well as great cultural hybridity. This course counts toward the Global Perspectives graduation requirement.
