This course provides both a theoretical framework and an account of the events needed to understand China’s modern foreign policy. Key topics include: The Opium Wars, the Taiping Rebellion, the First and Second Sino-Japanese Wars, China’s foreign policy during the Cold War, Trade, Taiwan, China’s maritime disputes, and China’s relations with the United States.
