Catalog description

This course focuses on the current housing crisis with an emphasis on the United States. The course explores the history of housing policy in the United States, the cultural impetus of the “America Dream” as it relates to home ownership, types of housing in the U.S., the factors that have resulted in a massive housing shortage of over 7 million units, the issues associated with housing affordability, homelessness, and importantly, potential strategies to ameliorate the ongoing housing crisis. The course explores these housing topics through the lenses of social justice, sustainability and resilience planning. May be taught concurrently with PLN 650. Cannot receive credit for both PLN 550 and PLN 650. Cannot be taken Pass/Not Pass. Recommended Prerequisite: PLN 100 or GRY 100 or GRY 108 or permission of instructor.
