History of Europe from the First World War. Topics will include the persistence of war and violence in contemporary European history, the evolution of the state and economy during eras of crisis and growth, and the transformation of European society and culture across the 20th century. May be taught concurrently with HST 655. Cannot receive credit for both HST 555 and HST 655. Prerequisite: 50 hours.
