Catalog description

Survey of humankind’s relationship with nature and the environment in what is now the United States from pre-Columbian times to the present. Will especially focus on the impact of American development on the environment, the impact of the environment on the development of the United States, and the significance of the many different ideas and images concerning nature and the environment throughout American history. May be taught concurrently with HST 615. Cannot receive credit for both HST 515 and HST 615. Prerequisite: 50 hours.
