Environmental, Resource, and Energy Economics

Catalog description

This course will examine the analysis and application of economic principles to environmental, renewable, and nonrenewable natural resources. Topics include methods for valuing the environment, the role of incentives, cost-benefit analysis, the management of renewable resources such as forest, fisheries, water, and arable land as well as the management of nonrenewable resources such as oil, coal, and natural gas. The course will also examine waste and toxic substance disposal and the effect of industry and agriculture on the environment. May be taught concurrently with ECO 640. Cannot receive credit for both ECO 540 and ECO 640. Prerequisite: ECO 165 ; and undergraduate business majors must be admitted to degree program.
