Women in Criminal Justice

Catalog description
Using theoretical guidance, students will explore the way that women’s roles in the justice system - as offenders, victims, citizens, and workers - reflect their position in the wider society. Students will develop an understanding of theories explaining female offending and how the criminal justice system responds to illegal acts committed by women and girls as well as women’s victimization and the criminal justice system response to their victimization. Students will examine the experiences of women working within the criminal justice system. Prerequisite: CRM 210 or permission of instructor.
