Catalog description
Course emphasizes advanced DNA sequencing and bioinformatics tools. The laboratory component focuses on hands-on techniques in microbial genomics, including amplicon sequencing, functional gene analysis, whole-genome/metagenome sequencing, and metatranscriptomics, with applications in environmental, clinical, agricultural, and industrial contexts. Cannot be taken Pass/Not Pass. May be taught concurrently with BIO 619. Cannot receive credit for both BIO 519 and BIO 619. Prerequisite: BIO 235 or BMS 230 ; and BIO 212 or BIO 312 or BIO 320 or BMS 317 or BMS 521 . Recommended Prerequisite: BIO 540 or BIO 640.
