Applied Soil Site Assessment

Catalog description

This course provides hands-on training in the evaluation of soil and landscape characteristics for land-use planning and on-site wastewater treatment system (OWTS) installation. Students develop practical skills in excavating and profiling soil pits, accurately recording soil morphological data, and preparing complete OWTS soil reports. Emphasis is placed on interpreting landscape position and contour, determining percent slope, and identifying suitable OWTS placement in accordance with applicable regulatory standards. The course also introduces the operation of surveying equipment, including laser transits, to support precise site assessment and system layout. Through field-based instruction and applied analysis, students gain the technical competencies necessary for professional soil site evaluation and environmental compliance. May be taught concurrently with AGN 655. Cannot receive credit for both AGN 455 and AGN 655. Recommended Prerequisite: AGN 215 .
