Gerontology: Engaging in Aging Practice Strategies

Fall & Spring 3 Credit Hours This course is an analysis of policies, healthcare services, and intervention strategies that support adults aged 60 and older. Through a biopsychosocial lens, students will examine the complexities of aging across individual, community, and policy levels. Emphasis will be placed on identifying both the strengths and challenges facing older adults, as well as the roles professionals play in promoting well-being and equity in later life. Students will engage with guest speakers from various fields and participate in interactive assignments designed to connect theory with real-world practice. Prerequisite: Completion of 75 credit hours (undergraduate and/or graduate), cumulative GPA of 3.0, and permission from the instructor. This graduate-level course may meet concurrently with an undergraduate course SW394, but students may not enroll in both the undergraduate and graduate courses simultaneously. Undergraduate students who enroll in the graduate course must have instructor permission and are required to complete all the graduate coursework. Undergraduate students may be able to count hours toward a graduate degree (but this is not guaranteed)
