Catalog description

Fall, Spring, Summer 9 Credit Hours Emergency Medical Technician is a fundamental course that is designed to provide you with the knowledge, skills and experience to function as a competent, entry-level practitioner. The student will gain knowledge about the acute, critical differences in physiology, pathophysiology, and clinical differences as they pertain to the pre-hospital emergency medical care of the infant, child, adolescent, adult, and geriatric patient. The student will develop skills in patient assessment, airway management, shock and bleeding control, and splinting. The student will have the opportunity to implement the knowledge and skills learned and gain clinical experience during hospital and ambulance based clinical rotations. PARA 0201 or BIO 0121 is strongly recommended prior to enrolling in this course. Prerequisite: Student must possess a current CPR for Healthcare Provider certification
