Introduction to Public History

Fall-Odd 3 Credit Hours This course provides an introduction to the ways history is conceptualized and presented outside of the classroom: in libraries, museums, national parks, theme parks, films, and on the internet. Special emphases will include an introduction to the various professions of the field, the historical thought-processes required to interpret the past for the public, and the unique challenges public historians face as they balance competing debates about how the past should be preserved and remembered. Prerequisite: any 100 level History course. Prerequisite: any 100 level History course
