Catalog description

Fall, Spring, Summer 3 Credit Hours Provides an introduction to intersections between literature and medicine, exploring representations of health, illness, death, and medical practice in a variety of genres. Emphasis is on historical and cultural contexts of both literary works and their medical subjects as well as how the methods of literary studies, including narrative techniques and literary devices, contribute to knowledge in the field of medicine and to understanding and communicating the human experience for both healthcare practitioners and patients. Authors, time periods, and national origins covered may vary. Prerequisites: ENG 101: College Composition I, and ENG 102: College Composition II, or ENG 111: Advanced College Composition
