Wilderness and Its Critics

Catalog description

Wilderness is one of the most contested areas of environmental work today. This course examines wilderness as both idea and policy, from ethical, aesthetic, social scientific, and comparative perspectives. Students will learn the history of national parks and federally designated wilderness in the U.S. and consider contemporary debates concerning its future, with special focus on critical responses by ecofeminist and decolonial thinkers. Prerequisites: Sophomore standing or above.
