Catalog description

Specialty pharmacy is one of the fastest growing segments of pharmacy practice today and while it only impacts a small percent of the population, the diseases and drug therapies are very complex. The specialty pharmacy elective course will teach students the fundamentals and considerations for the patient intake process, quality assurance, dispensing, and outcomes evaluation. Clinical modules will teach students the pharmacotherapy of specialty medications used to treat oncological diseases, organ transplants, infectious diseases (Hepatitis C and HIV), neurological disorders, and inflammatory conditions as students learn to evaluate treatment appropriateness, drug interactions, and more.
