Catalog description
This course will present the various elements required to perform a timely and thorough perioperative assessment. Integration of the health history, physical and psychological assessment of signs and symptoms, and pathophysiologic changes of the individual are emphasized. The student will integrate knowledge and advanced assessment skills, including but not limited to laboratory, radiologic, and other diagnostic studies, as appropriate. The course will incorporate the psychosocial, cultural and developmental variations and needs of the patient into the assessment. Students will learn to use the results of the perioperative assessment in establishing a differential diagnosis and developing an effective and appropriate plan.
