Catalog description

This course is designed to give the nurse anesthesia student an orientation to nurse anesthesia practice. The course content will include an overview of the history of the nurse anesthesia profession and the role of the nurse anesthetist. Patient-centered care, cultural competence, and interprofessional communication will be discussed. The course will introduce students to basic anesthesia equipment, operating room preparedness, and workplace safety, including infection prevention and medication safety. The course will introduce the student to professional practice documents and institutional policies. An evidenced-based wellness and substance use disorder program of study will be incorporated into the course.
