Catalog description

This course is designed to prepare family nurse practitioner (FNP) students to care for and manage common health problems across the life span. The focus is on developmentally appropriate preventive health care, management of common acute and episodic illnesses while being mindful of cultural characteristic differences. Students will integrate role competencies, professional standards, and legal requirements essential to the FNP role. Core content includes differential diagnosis, therapeutic management, adherence, anticipatory guidance, education of the patient and their defined family, inclusivity, legal and professional issues, standards of practice, and advanced practice role competencies. This 5 credit hour course consists of 2.5 credit hours of didactic/discussion per week and 2.5 credit hours (206.5) hours of clinical/lab per semester.
