Catalog description

Introduces foundational clinical skills essential for patient care. The course emphasizes patient-centered approaches to communication, history taking, and physical examination that consider medical, psychological, and social factors influencing health. Through small-group workshops, students develop verbal and nonverbal communication skills, practice focused and complaint-based histories and learn systems-based physical examination techniques. Students also explore professional roles within the health care team, motivational interviewing, and strategies for managing challenging patient interactions.
