Catalog description

This final course in the Fundamentals series reinforces non-biological factors influencing health and the appreciation of different value systems and lifestyles. A Standardized Patient experience is integrated into the course. The course also evaluates public health concepts (e.g., disease screening/prevention, health disparities, healthcare access for different populations, and promotes ethical considerations around professional behavior and patient care. Explores healthcare quality/safety, economics, patient advocacy, physician wellness, and interprofessional interactions addressing students’ future roles in the healthcare environment. Continues to emphasize a team approach in solving medical problems in weekly onsite Docent experiences.
