This is the second of four Fundamentals courses. It further explores professional values, attitudes, and skills required to practice medicine competently. Students practice building patient-physician relationships, patient-centered interviewing skills, approaches to effectively communicate as medical professionals, and learn about ethical considerations relating to professionalism and identity-formation. This course explores non-biological factors influencing health and an appreciation of different values and lifestyles in learning about specific communication skills for numerous patient populations. This course continues the team approach in solving medical problems through direct small group activities as part of weekly onsite docent experience.
