Catalog description

This course focuses on the provisions of the Immigration and Nationality Act that provide grounds for deportation, the removal process, detention, defenses against removal, and the role of the judiciary, including the doctrine of habeas corpus. The course also covers the structure of the federal immigration enforcement administration, including the departments of Homeland Security and Justice. The course examines the extent to which the president has been given broad discretion, constitutional protections for non-citizens in the process, and the role of states in immigration enforcement.
