Catalog description
Family Court Externs serve in the chambers of Family Law judges and commissioners and observe mediation, conciliation, adult abuse docket, and cross-court visits. The externship offers students an opportunity to gain practical legal skills, learn about the programs ordered by the judges to assist families in crisis, and develop a working knowledge of the Family Court Division. Family Court judges hear a wide range of matter concerning families, marriage, and children, including marriage (dissolution, annulments, maintenance), child custody, paternity, child support, adult abuse, juvenile delinquency, adoptions, and guardianships.
