Catalog description

This course examines the evolution of U.S. cities from the Pre-Colonial era to contemporary times. Students will grasp the major themes and topics in American Urban History including: city planning beginnings, industrialization, immigration and migration to the city, Progressivism and urban politics, urban decline and renewal, social movements, and suburbanization. This course will have a special emphasis on issues of race, class, and gender, and how these affected the growth of American cities.
