Botulinum toxin is a neurotoxin used to treat temporomandibular joint (TMJ) disorders and associated jaw pain and tension. Dermal fillers are commonly used to augment facial esthetics of dental therapies. The course includes a review of facial muscle anatomy, landmarks, and the indications and contraindications from using Botox and dermal fillers. Working on patients under the guidance of certified dental practitioners, students learn physiology, pharmacodynamics, the handling of materials, proper evaluation, treatment planning, dosing, documentation and injection techniques of Botox and dermal fillers. We also review safety and risks related to Botox and dermal fillers.
