Catalog description

Medical Microbiology begins with a review of the basic scientific principles in virology, bacteriology, mycology, and parasitology. The subsequent portion of the course shifts focus to pathogenesis, epidemiology, and the clinical presentation of human infections. This includes a review of antimicrobial therapeutic regimens including mechanisms of action and clinical settings in which specific agents may be used. Case studies are provided throughout the course to enhance critical thinking, to practice developing reasonable differential diagnoses, and to encourage a rational approach toward management with antimicrobial stewardship.
