Reading and Language Disabilities in School Age Children

(cross-leveled with SLHS 4420 ). This course will focus on three key questions: (1) The science of reading: How do children learn to read? (2) Effective instruction: What kind of teaching helps children learn to read? (3) Intensive intervention: What do struggling readers need to succeed? We will learn about evidence-based practice in reading and language disorders, as well as develop the explicit linguistic knowledge necessary to deliver effective intervention. We will consider the roles and responsibilities of speech-language pathologists in prevention and intervention of reading disorders. Graded on A-F basis only.
