Catalog description

(cross-leveled with PHYSCS 7150 ). This course offers a comprehensive introduction to concepts and principles of laser and quantum optics. It covers key topics such as laser principle, advanced laser technology, the nature and statistics of photons, and the quantum mechanical framework underlying quantum optical phenomena. The course also provides a discussion on emerging areas such as quantum information and its applications. In addition to lectures, students will gain practical experience through hands-on experiments, allowing them to directly apply the concepts learned in the class. The integration of theory and practice ensures a well-rounded understanding of quantum optics, equipping students with the essential knowledge needed for further development. Graded on A-F basis only. Credit Hour s : 4 Prerequisites: PHYSCS 3150 or instructor's consent required
