Foundations of Informatics & Data Science for Health Researchers

Catalog description

This course introduces researchers to the foundations of health informatics as a discipline and concepts of data science as a distinct methodological area that can support informatics research. An overview of informatics domains, methods, applications, implications, and ethical considerations will be covered to ground health research in informatics best practices. In addition, an overview of data science concepts and methods will be presented to facilitate collaboration with data scientists and recognize where data science methods can support health domain expertise in research projects. The core focus of the course is to enable interdisciplinary knowledge, communication, and collaboration to advance health research using informatics and novel data sources. Programming and technical expertise are not required. Graded on A-F basis only. Credit Hour s : 3 Prerequisites: Completion of a graduate level statistics course
