This course spans topics on K-12 reading and writing in US education systems, which continues to be characterized by rising inequities. Core to this course, and to our future humanity, is the need for learning opportunities for all students. In this course and program, we recognize literacy as a fundamental right and a cornerstone of meaningful learning for all students. We are committed to ensuring that literacy instruction is not only effective but also responsive to all strengths, experiences, and needs of every learner. By centering literacy as essential rather than supplementary, we equip educators with the knowledge and strategies to create inclusive, accessible, and empowering learning environments where all students can thrive as readers, writers, and critical thinkers.
