Catalog description

This course explores the theory, research, and practice in the teaching and learning of communication. This course is intended for master's and doctoral students - experienced teachers enrolled in MU's English Education graduate program. This course addresses selected Common Core Standards, and focuses on the teaching of speaking, listening, and language, as they occur within the best practices of English/Language Arts classrooms. The course involves variety of texts such as short stories, poems, literary nonfiction, and plays. The teaching of critical thinking, research skills, and technology are integrated into these experiences. This course encourages the use of various teaching and learning practices. The course is divided into the following major themes: 1) Introductions of Class Members; 2) Overview of Communication: Theory, Research, Practice; and 3) Teaching Communication in Context: Speaking, Listening, Reading, Writing. Graded on A-F basis only. Credit Hour s : 3 Recommended: We recommended, but do not require, that you take this course early in your program
