Property I: Foundations

Catalog description

Property Law is the study of the nature of legal rights with respect to various sorts of resources, how one acquires such rights, and how these rights are and can be shared, divided, limited, and transferred. In Property I, we will study property torts (trespass, nuisance, conversion), adverse possession, personal property doctrines (including capture, bailments, and basic IP concepts), present possessory estates and future interests, and concurrent property ownership. Property I frames these doctrines in the context of property themes and theories and uses cases as a springboard for exploring how our legal system reflects and preserves society's values and the allocation of wealth and power.
