Catalog description

Introduction of fundamental computational techniques used in power grid operation and planning. The course will help students understand the various computational methods that form the foundation for prominent commercial software packages system analysts and operators use. It will cover the following computational and statistical techniques frequently used in power grid operation and planning: systems of nonlinear equations, numerical integration, sparse matrix solution methods, optimization, state estimation, reliability and resource adequacy assessment, economic dispatch, and unit commitment. Graded on A-F basis only. Credit Hour s : 3 Recommended: Prior knowledge of linear systems analysis, statistics, and computer programming is required
