Course focuses on the rhetorical criticism of public address, which involves analyzing and evaluating the use of symbolic communication - primarily persuasive argument - in public settings on issues of political, social and cultural significance. Students will examine examples of public communication (including speeches, written documents, and media texts) related to contemporary events of the day, such as political campaign messages, presidential rhetoric, or social movement and interest group advocacy.
