First course of a two-semester sequence. Structure and bonding; chemistry of hydrocarbons, alkyl halides, alcohols and ethers; reaction mechanisms; principles of reactivity and synthesis; IR and NMR spectroscopy. Only 1 hour credit if taken after CHEM 2030 or equivalent. Credit Hour s : 3 Prerequisites: C- or higher in CHEM 1400 and CHEM 1401 or CHEM 1410 . Honors eligibility required Recommended: CHEM 1410
