Internship in CRM Archaeology

Catalog description

This course is an introductory anthropological internship designed to expose students to archaeological methods and practice used in both private and government cultural resource management (CRM). CRM is dedicated to identifying, managing, and preserving archaeological resources and other forms of cultural materials (e.g., historic houses, cultural landscapes such as groves or cultivated forests). It impacts development and land use including construction projects such as building roads and resource extraction such as logging or mining and is subsequently governed by a series of legal and ethical frameworks. Students will participate in active Missouri state government cultural resources surveys and laboratory analysis associated with the Missouri Department of Natural Resources and the Missouri Department of Transportation. Through hands-on activities, students will learn federal and state rules and regulations surrounding cultural resource management, apply field and laboratory analysis techniques, and explore the opportunities and workplace characteristics of government work.
