Credits: 2 30 contact hours Prerequisite: NU 300 , NU 301 , NU 325 , NU 328 , NU 329 , NU 330 , NU 350 , NU 351 , NU 352 , NU 355 , NU 357 . Concurrent enrollment: NU 425 , NU 426 , NU 428 , NU 429 . This course builds on the foundational knowledge acquired in NU 357, advancing the student’s understanding of organizational and management principle within nursing practice. Emphasis is placed on systems-based practice and quality and safety, as students explore core concepts including staffing, scheduling, resource management, and budgeting. The directing function of management is introduced with a focus on effective delegation, supervision, conflict resolution, and interprofessional collaboration. Students will examine the controlling function of management through the lens of continuous quality improvement, patient safety, and accountability. The nurse’s role as a leader, care coordinator, and contributor to a high-functioning healthcare team is emphasized, supporting the development of professional identity and the ability to deliver person-centered, evidence-based care. This course is grounded in the American Association of Colleges of Nursing (AACN) Essentials (2021) and the American Nurses Association (ANA) Standards of Professional Nursing Practice , ensuring that students develop the competencies required for professional practice and leadership in contemporary healthcare environments
