Credits: 4 60 contact hours Prerequisite: NU 300 , NU 301 , NU 325 , NU 328 , NU 329 , NU 330 , NU 350 , NU 351 , NU 352 , NU 355 , NU 357 . Concurrent enrollment: NU 425 , NU 426 , NU 429 , NU 430 . This course builds upon a foundation in the liberal arts and junior level nursing coursework to prepare students for the delivery of high-quality person-centered care to individuals experiencing acute and complex health alterations. Grounded in The Essentials: Core Competencies for Professional Nursing Education by AACN and the American Nurses Association (ANA) Standards of Nursing Practice , the course deepens the student’s understanding of human pathophysiology, emphasizing acute disease manifestations and their management. Students will apply clinical reasoning and the nursing process to inform sound, evidence-based decision-making integrating person-centered care by addressing the unique needs and preferences of diverse patients across the lifespan. Emphasis is placed on translating current research into practice and applying principles of quality and safety to reduce harm and enhance care outcomes. Students will engage in interprofessional communication and collaboration and utilize healthcare technologies to support safe, effective, and coordinated case delivery. Through this course, students further develop their professional identity and leadership competences, fostering commitment to ethical practice, lifelong learning, and continuous improvement within complex healthcare systems. Note: For each nursing course with an accompanying clinical course a grade of “C” or above is required in the theory course with a minimum grade of C in the associated clinical course in order to progress. If this does not occur, both the theory and the clinical course must be retaken together
