Credits: 2 30 contact hours Prerequisite: NU 300 , NU 301 , NU 325 , NU 328 , NU 329 , NU 330 , NU 350 , NU 351 , NU 352 , NU 355 , NU 357 . Concurrent enrollment: NU 426 , NU 428 , NU 429 , NU 430 . This course provides a forum for the exploration and discussion of nursing theories and evidence-based practice as they relate to the discipline of professional nursing. Emphasis is placed on theories drawn from both the art and science of nursing, as well as relevant frameworks from other disciplines that enhance the nurse’s understanding of the human experience. Rather than attempting to survey all possible theories the course focuses on those most applicable to the clinical experiences of the current semester. Additionally, students are introduced to the foundational principles of nursing research, including its structure, purpose, and relevance to practice. Grounded in the American Association of Colleges of Nursing (AACN) Essentials and the American Nurses Association (ANA) Standards of Professional Nursing Practice , the course supports the development of professional competencies. As part of a collaborative learning experience, student groups-under the guidance of faculty-will identify a problem of significance to nursing and develop a complete research proposal
