Catalog description

This course provides a foundational overview of the scientific research process and prepares students to participate in undergraduate research across various scientific fields. Designed for students with limited research background, students will learn to read and interpret scholarly articles, understand basic research terminology, and recognize the characteristics of rigorous scientific inquiry. Students will also be guided to explore research opportunities on campus and in the state, practice communicating professionally with faculty mentors, and examine expectations for responsible and ethical research conduct. By the end of the course, students will build the early skills, confidence, and professional habits needed to participate in novel research projects and to pursue future academic or applied research opportunities.
