Catalog description

Engineering Statics introduces the vector analysis of forces and moments required to determine the equilibrium of stationary structures. You'll first master Free Body Diagrams (FBDs) and the principles of equilibrium for both particles and rigid bodies in 2-D and 3-D systems. The course then transitions to practical applications, including the detailed analysis of forces in trusses, frames, and machines, calculating shear and bending moments in beams, and understanding the effects of friction in mechanical elements like wedges and screws. Finally, you'll learn to calculate essential geometric properties: centroids, center of mass, and area and mass moments of inertia. Upon completion, you'll be equipped to perform a comprehensive force and moment analysis on any stationary structure. Prerequisite: MATH 107 or ENGR 107 . Corequisite: MATH 165 .
