Catalog description
This course explores major concepts regarding how the environment affects human health, with an emphasis on microbiology. The course will include a survey of environmental toxicology, aquatic microbiology, food, drug, and agricultural microbiology and safety, and animal health and zoonotic diseases. For each of these major concepts, students will learn techniques for testing for microbial contamination, as well as the federal and local regulations put in place to aid in maintaining healthy environments for human interaction. Lecture, 3 hours; Laboratory, 3 hours.
