UXD 4810
UX Practicum
Milwaukee School of Engineering · UGRD · Fall 2026
Catalog description
The UXD 4810 UX Practicum course accommodates both UX majors and minors, enabling the application of classroom theory to diverse real-world settings. It is notable for its inclusive approach to project locations, supporting both on-campus initiatives and external ventures. The practicum projects span a wide range of UX professional skills and career exploration areas, such as digital and immersive design, UX research, visual design, data visualization, development, content management, digital marketing, and project management. This mix of local and external projects provides a unique learning experience. Upon completing the practicum, students must submit a detailed report that reflects on their practical experiences, skills developed, and lessons learned. UXD 4810 can be chosen as a major elective for UX majors. Like UXD 4820, students are expected to find their practicum placements through the Career Connections Center, the UX program director, or on their own, and must complete all required paperwork prior to the practicum’s start. The principal distinction between UXD 4820 and UXD 4810 lies in the project requirements. UXD 4820 requires external projects, promoting engagement with the broader professional community, whereas UXD 4810 offers flexibility, allowing for both on-campus and external projects, thus providing a wider range of practical experience opportunities.
