Catalog description

Interface Design explores the foundational principles of visual interface design, focusing on creating intuitive and functional user interfaces. Students will cover topics such as icons, user interface (UI) components, UI layout, and typography for multiple digital devices. Emphasis will be placed on developing low-fidelity and high-fidelity prototypes, equipping students with the skills to transform design concepts into practical interfaces. In addition to tools like Adobe CC, Figma, Dreamweaver, HTML, and CSS, the course introduces AI-driven tools and concepts, including Figma plugins, Visily, and prompt engineering techniques. These AI tools will help students explore rapid prototyping and automated design processes, enhancing their efficiency and creativity. The course will also incorporate A/B testing to help students understand how to evaluate different design variations and make data-driven decisions. This course is closely linked to Interaction Design (UXD 2020), allowing students to see how effective interface design contributes to seamless interactions and enhances the user journey. Through lectures and hands-on workshops, the course will highlight the visual aspects of interface design, its integration with AI-assisted methods, and its practical application. Applied AI Integration: This course meets or exceeds MSOE’s Applied AI Integration guidelines for substantial coverage of Practical Application and for sufficient coverage of Foundational Knowledge.
