Catalog description

This course introduces students to the theory and practice of writing for digital contexts, with a special emphasis on generative AI. Students will learn how to create text that is clear, direct, and effective in a variety of web-based environments, leveraging generative AI tools to enhance their writing. Through readings and classroom discussion, students will improve their ability to analyze digital texts, evaluate their quality, and understand the role of AI in content creation. Ethical considerations and responsible use of AI will be emphasized throughout the course. This course uses a writing workshop approach with significant focus on discussion of student work. Projects include creating and localizing content for websites, editing for more readable style and structure, messaging for social media and blogs, creating consistent design across platforms, improving SEO and discoverability for websites and social media, customizing content for specific social media channels, and integrating generative AI tools into the writing process.
